CS:GO skins are pieces of artwork drawn on the weapons in the game CS:GO. Players buy them to either trade or show off to their friends and use them in-game.

Some of the skins are pretty cool with colorful and pretty patterns. With the amount of skins in the game now there’s surely something for everyone’s tastes.

In this article we will talk about these skins and their rare patterns that can change the $ value of the skin.

Float Value

Every skin has a unique ‘float value’ which can tell how good the skin wear looks and if it has a lot of scratches or not. The value is a number is between 0 and 1. The lower the number, the newer/cleaner the skin will appear.

There are 5 wear conditions of CS:GO skins which are (from best to worst):

  • Factory New
  • Minimal Wear
  • Field-Tested
  • Well Worn
  • Battle Scarred.

The connection between the Float value and the skin condition is the chart below.

CSGO Float Chart

For example: your AK-47 Redline Field-Tested can look like Minimal Wear or Well-Worn depending on the float value that it has.

AK-47 | Redline Minimal Wear Look

The picture above shows the AK-47 Redline Field-Tested with 0.17034656 float value looks like Minimal Wear.

AK-47 | Redline Well Worn Look

Above, the picture shows the same AK-47 Redline Field-Tested with 0.362304572 float value but it looks like Well-Worn.

Finding The Float Value Of A CSGO Skin

Now you will surely be asking from where can I find the float value for a skin?
Thankfully there are a lot of ways to check the float value for a skin.

1st Method - CS:GO In-Game Inspect Feature

  • Open CS:GO.
  • Right-click on the skin and click ‘Inspect’.
  • Hover your mouse cursor over the document icon in the bottom right corner of the display window.
  • Information about the skin will now be displayed, included the skin float value.

2nd Method - Steam Inventory Helper Browser Extension

Google Chrome users can download the extension ‘Steam Inventory Helper’ Which will show the float value and the market price of the skins you own in your inventory.

Other Methods

Many 3rd party websites can be used to analyse your steam inventory and show the float value for each CSGO skin.

Other CS:GO Skin Variances

There are some odd quirks, variances and exceptions to the basic float value rules though.

Maximum/Minimum Float Value

Basically every skin has a maximum float value and minimum, for example:

  • AWP | Asiimov
  • Karambit | Crimson Web
  • Karambit | Doppler

For example all the Crimson Web skins have the minimum float value of 0.06 as you can see in the picture above Factory New is from 0.00 to 0.07 so there is only 0.01 chance to get that skin in Factory New, so that makes it expensive and rare.

Some skins have smaller float value range, that’s why you can’t find them with all the conditions for example: the Asiimov have the minimum float value of 0.18 so Minimal Wear and Factory New doesn’t exist for it because Minimal Wear starts at 0.15. Same thing goes with the Doppler skins it only has Minimal Wear and Factory New.

The picture below is an example that shows the AWP | Asiimov in the community market of steam, as you can see there are only 3 conditions.

AWP | Asiimov

Skin Brightness

There are some skins that don’t have scratches or wear at all! These skins are often coveted because the condition and float value doesn’t affect the skin wear, but instead affects the brightness of the skin.

Some examples of these are:

  • M4A4 | Desolate Space
  • AK-47 | Blood Sport
  • M4A1-S | Decimator
M4A1-S | Decimator M4A1-S | Decimator

The first picture shows the M4A1-S | Decimator in Factory New and the second one is the same skin but in Battle Scarred.
Honestly, the Battle Scarred looks cooler!

Skin Patterns

Every skin has a pattern customized by the creator of the skin; some skins have different patterns even though it’s the same skin. Some of these patterns are pretty rare and hard to get which makes the price of it really high, but it’s really cool.

Here are some of the most rare skin patterns:

  • Case Hardened (Blue Gem or Gold or Blaze)
  • Doppler (Sapphire, Ruby and Black Pearl)

There a lot more skins that have rare patterns, you might find one that mean something special to you or any mix of colors you like.

For example the Case Hardened skins (Karambit, AK-47, Five-Seven, Bayonet, etc.) have a very low chance of becoming a Blue Gem or Gold pattern or Blaze pattern.

Here is a picture of the Case Hardened pattern:

Case Hardened Pattern

As you can see the blue part of the pattern is not that big so you will most likely get gold/brown with your blue. There is still a very small chance of getting a full blue pattern just like the picture below:

Karambit | Case Hardened

The Same thing goes with the Doppler pattern. There is a small chance that your Doppler skin will be either Sapphire Ruby or Black Pearl. The Doppler also has 4 different phases that you normally will get; where each phase has a different pattern/look. So basically there are 7 patterns for the Doppler skins.

The coveted Karambit | Doppler (Ruby):

Karambit | Doppler

There are some other cool skins pattern appear when the skin gets Battle Scarred for example:

  • AWP | Asiimov (Blackiimov)
  • Tec-9 | Hades

There are plenty other skins that those, Basically these skins show a different pattern when it gets more Battle Scarred, in other words the more beat up the skin is the more the pattern shows.

Here is a picture of the Tec-9 | Hades in Battle Scarred:

Tec-9 | Hades

As you can see the more Battle Scarred it gets the more the heads turn into skulls, which some people might find really cool.

Another example which is the ‘Blackiimov’, which occurs when the AWP | Asiimov skin gets so Battle Scarred that the whole Scope becomes black color. This key feature can make a huge difference with the market price of the AWP.

Picture below shows the AWP | Asiimov (Blackiimov) Pattern:
